Phoenix has never suffered from a hangover. The highly efficient metabolism of an immortal body means that the effects of alcohol simply wear off after an hour or so. Once he’s escorted Addie back to her rooms, he gates back to his own, and takes a shower.

Once refreshed and a little more alert, he dresses again and gates to the palace, standing for a while in the shadows, out of sight of the still-departing guests, watching people just for the sake of doing so. He then disappears and re-manifests on one of the balconies, wherein lie Drake’s rooms. The tall window is open; Phoenix taps at the glass and waits to be called in.
